Keeping secrets
Reply Quote
When my father was diagnosed with MS, I was 18.  He didn't want anyone else to know.  So we kept it a secret for a long time.  It was hard for me, because I couldn't really talk to other people about it and get the support I needed.  When I was diagnosed, I kept my MS a secret too . . . I didn't really consider other possibilities, since that was just the way it was done in my family.  Looking back, I really wish I had been more open about it.  Now that people know about my MS, I am truly touched by how supportive everyone has been.  It makes a lot of things easier on me to have people understand my circumstances better.  That being said, I don't like telling strangers.  It still seems like a very personal piece of information.
